Nonprofit Republic Commune Event

Commune/kuh-myoon/verb:

to converse or talk together, usually with profound

intensity, intimacy, etc.; interchange thoughts or feelings.

On March 9, board members, executives, philanthropists, and advisors to nonprofits, government agencies and family foundations came together via NonProfit Republic. To spark meaningful and deep connections, we broke out in groups to share our own personal stories posing the following questions:

Is there an event or change in your life that has influenced your work or philanthropy?

What impact do you want your work to have?

Each nonprofit leader shared his or her personal story ranging from:

...being a 1st generation born US citizen with immigrant parents led him to support low income housing for immigrants

...overcoming drug or alcohol addiction drove him to commit 40% of his professional and personal hours each month to nonprofits

...experiencing the impact of Alzheimer's on her family caused her to lead an adult day care and resources center for other families

...and the list goes on and on.

Our leaders were moved and profoundly driven to serve the nonprofit sector and philanthropy. When confronted with a struggle, challenge or loss, each found a way to address the issue and help the next person or family. What about you?

Join the conversation...

What inspired your passion in philanthropy?

And what impact would you like your work to have?
